Last minute topic switch! I was preparing a few different entries for the Beginner post this month, however all of them could use a little more iteration before they are ready for posting, and it seems I have run out of time.
Here, instead, is a paper I recently prepared for one of my courses, analyzing the effects that Dr. Doak’s spatial randomization has on player experience in GoldenEye 007 (N64):
Although the paper gets into the type of high level considerations that I tend to reserve for Advanced and Special Topic entries, this was written assuming no prerequisite background, and introduces a design concept that I believe may be of use to developers with any amount or type of experience.
