Unity Rapid Prototyping: Flight Sim Control, Terrain Basics, Chase Cam, Skybox

Feb 13, 2014

This brief introduction video is to show developers that are new-ish to Unity some essential basics for putting together plane-based gameplay. I originally developed this material to teach teens when I was volunteering, although I’ve since shared variations of it in workshop form with my graduate school classmates.

(If you’re completely new to Unity, I’d also recommend first checking out my free 1 hour “Crash Course” video, Basic Unity Tutorial by HobbyGameDev.)

      I’ve added a link above.

If you do wind up experimenting with adding it to the terrain streaming package I’d be curious to hear how it goes. Good luck!

Great tutorial! Really appreciate all I learned. In 2 days I had the game working in the Oculus Rift. My Video Game Design students got a kick out of your game played in VR. Thanks!!

Fantastic tutorial! It’s too bad the download link doesn’t seem to be working, it is possible just to host the script itself somewhere? Unfortunately my eyesight isn’t quite up to the task of reading over what you do in the video.

Thanks Erik! Just to confirm, the project source zip’s URL http://www.hobbygamedev.com/unity/SimplePlane.zip wasn’t working? (I’ve just downloaded the code from it, seems to be working, but perhaps was on the fritz. Or did you spot a different download URL elsewhere than that one which is busted?)

Anyhoo let me know and I’ll find someplace else to rehost it if needed. Cheers!

Hey, yeah, I’m having trouble with that link, but if you say it’s downloading fine for you then it very well may be my buggy internet connection. I’ll have to try again another day when I have a more stable access, thanks for replying so fast!
