Support
Anyone, with any experience level, can find some useful or interesting information in the Articles.
For one-on-one support though, I need developers to have:
- Prior experience with simple programming.
- You can’t learn to write Japanese poetry without knowing Japanese. When I help with questions about videogame development, I assume reader knowledge of the language(s).
- Programming is the sort of thing that you can teach yourself, between library books and free material on the web (like Carl H’s “Higher Computing for Everyone”). For starters: here’s a conceptual introduction and explanation of how common programming elements are used in games. I also post source code samples.

Realistic goals, especially if this is one of your first hobby videogames. No one learns to write by starting a novel.
- RPGs, 3D first/third-person shooters, and online multiplayer games are created by dozens – and in some cases hundreds – of experienced specialists working for years.
- The simpler you make your first videogame, the sooner you can have your first game completed. For first projects, think of 5-10 minute retro or “web games”. Or simpler.

Past examples of support that I have provided:
- Custom sample code for a particular type of classic videogame
- Feedback for a hobby videogame project currently being created
- Brief Q&A covering anything that I might be able to answer
- Guidance on next steps, based on your current interest, abilities, and goals
If your question can be answered by something in the existing material, I’ll send back a link to that section. If your questions seem fairly general, I’ll include the prepared response or source in a later post.
I’m also happy to do interviews with companies that have questions that can be answered in a single session – as a general rule, I’ll freely give away any information that I’m in turn free to then publish and share with others.
Drop me an e-mail at chris@deleonic.com. I am generally able to reply within a few days.
